MG Football, Week Two vs. DeForest | 9.2
The Silver Eagles host one of the Badger North's better teams, DeForest, in their home opener. MG dropped the Norskies in a squeaker in DeForest last year, 16-10.  DeForest snuck past Monroe in their opener, 21-0.
A win over the Norskies (ranked 14th in the WisSports.Net Division II Coaches Poll) would set MG up nicely for conference play. The Silver Eagles are ranked 2nd in Division II in the same poll, so they're definitely getting some early season respect this year. – CC

Shots Fired |9.2
Monona Police Chief Walter Ostrenga sent word a few minutes ago that gunshots were reported near the intersection of Monona Drive and Cottage Grove Road around 3:24 am on Sunday, August 29. No one was injured, but a citizen reported hearing two shots fired from or near a white "Land Rover type vehicle" with tinted windows, containing two people. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Monona Police Department at 222-0463, or Madison Area Crime Stoppers at 266-6014. -am
Quick Football Thoughts | 8.28
Friday night's football game in Reedsburg was expected to be a great game - and it was...if you're an MG fan. The Silver Eagles positively dominated the Beavers, winning 17-0. In short, the MG passing attack was amazing, the defense was stiffling and MG looked like a serious contender. The running game was a bit iffy at times, but found their groove late in the game helping to run out the clock. Next up is DeForest at MG Friday. - CC

Opinion Friday | 8.27
Today we bring you our new editorial and the story of a man who walked from coast to coast this summer, passing through Dane County along the way, as a way to encourage an adventure by foot of your own. Jack looks into Fired Up Pottery's move to Monona, new stop signs and Monona Grove's food service changes, while Sunny looks at some good ideas from Lincoln, Nebraska and the similarities between horses and trains. Enjoy the beautiful weather this weekend! - am
Friday Night Lights | 8.26
The annual Hometown News Group football preview issue doesn't come out until next week but we've posted our Monona Grove preview in advance of Friday night's big opener in Reedsburg. To summarize our preview story, there's plenty of reason to believe MG will have an outstanding team this year. Friday night's game pits the Silver Eagles against the reigning WIAA Division III state champions. The Silver Eagles have defeated Reedsburg in the last two seasons - both outstanding games. The Beavers are expected to be strong again this year, with senior quarterback Chad Mazur (who is crazy good, BTW) running their flexbone offense. The Silver Eagle defense handled the flexbone well last year, but it's a confusing offense to defend and that should make it a great early season test for MG. – CC
